Stand Out Basic Book Cover
BEGINNING LITERACY
 
Beginning literacy students will engage in reading, writing, speaking and listening activities to increase their level of English proficiency and to enable them to function in our community. Subjects will include learning the alphabet and numbers, how to greet people, being healthy, shopping, places in our community, housing, and employment. Grammar will focus on the simple present tense, contractions, propositions, and asking questions.

BEGINNING LOW
 
Beginning Low students will engage in reading, writing, speaking and listening activities to increase their level of English proficiency and to enable them to function in our community. Subjects will include shopping, nutrition, housing, health and fitness, employment and goal setting. Grammar will focus on the simple present, present continuous, prepositions, question words, and the simple past tense.

BEGINNING HIGH
 
Beginning High students will engage in reading, writing, speaking and listening activities to increase their level of English proficiency and to enable them to function in our community. Subjects will include the weather, shopping, understanding advertisements, food and nutrition, housing, budgets, our community, health, employment and goal setting/lifelong learning. Grammar will focus on the simple present, possessive adjectives, prepositions, adverbs, the simple past tense, and the future tense.

INTERMEDIATE LOW
 
Intermediate Low students will engage in reading, writing, speaking and listening activities to increase their level of English proficiency and to enable them to function in our community. Subjects will include (but are not limited to) identifying goals and obstacles, making a budget, communicating symptoms to a doctor, interpreting nutrition information, filling out a job application, and interpreting the system of U.S government. Writing activities include a letter to a landlord, a business letter and composing a paragraph. Grammar will focus on the past continuous, future conditional, active and passive voices, present perfect and present perfect continuous.

INTERMEDIATE HIGH
 
Intermediate High students will engage in reading, writing, speaking and listening activities to increase their level of English proficiency. Subjects will include ( but are not limited to) how to be a smart shopper, interpreting credit card and loan information, identifying the steps to buying a home, interpreting doctor's instructions, and conducting a job search. Writing activities include a business letter, a cover letter , and resume. Grammar will focus on the present perfect, present perfect continuous, past perfect, adjective clauses and gerunds and infinitives as subjects. This class can help you prepare to transition to community college or a career.
 
 
North Star 2 Reading and Writing Cover
 ADVANCED LOW
 
Advanced Low students will engage in reading, writing, speaking and listening activities to increase their level of English proficiency. Reading will focus on making and confirming predictions, identifying the main idea in a reading, and inferring word meaning from context. To improve composition skills, paragraph writing will be emphasized. Grammar will focus on the present progressive, adverbs of manner, and possessive and descriptive adjectives. This class can help you prepare to transition to community college or a career. 
 
 
NorthStar 2 Reading and Writing
ADVANCED HIGH
 
Advanced High students will engage in reading, writing, speaking and listening activities to increase their level of English proficiency. Reading will focus on identifying the main idea and the different types of supporting details in a reading and inferring the author's purpose and/ or view. To improve composition skills, essay writing will be emphasized. This class can help you prepare to transition to community college or a career.
