Work Preparation
ESL students who are interested in pursuing a medical career or want to learn about office software applications can choose to participate in our specialty classes. These free classes are offered to students who speak, read, and write in English at the Intermediate High through the Advanced ESL levels.
IELCE Medical Communication
Students will learn the language skills related to “hands-on” patient care. This class will support students to define and provide examples of the Six Principles of Patient Care through role plays, discussion, presentations, written reports, and research related to concepts in patient care. This interactive, language-focused class will support current and future nursing students to the next steps in their careers. Students in the school’s CNA program (or who intend to be the CNA program) will receive priority for this class.
IELCE Medical English
Students will gain confidence using health and medical terms with others as they learn English. This class will give students the opportunity to explore medical career choices and training paths while learning basic medical terms, common abbreviations, and how to use medical reference sources. The course will cover foundational vocabulary related to anatomy and physiology, including the identification of the main systems and how they function as a healthy living system. Students in the school’s Medical Terminology class will receive priority for this class.
IELCE Office English
Students will learn how to navigate amongst Google applications, especially spreadsheets. Students will then learn how to apply this knowledge to communicate with potential employers. Students in the school’s Office Skills classes will receive priority for this class.
